WAIKATO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

HAMILTON + WAIKATO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Relaxed, candid wedding photography for couples in Hamilton, Waikato, and across New Zealand.

A collection of weddings and elopements captured across Hamilton, the Waikato, and New Zealand.

SO YOU’RE ENGAGED AND PLANNING YOUR WEDDING

First of all, congratulations!! This is such an exciting season, and I’m honestly so stoked you’re here.

If you’re looking for a relaxed, fun, and friendly wedding photographer in New Zealand, you’re in the right place. I specialise in candid, storytelling-style wedding photography for couples who want their day captured as it actually felt, not stiff, awkward, or overly posed.

Whether you’re planning a big celebration in Hamilton or the Waikato, a laid-back backyard wedding, or a wild little elopement somewhere in the mountains, my approach is the same: keep things easy, keep things fun, and let real moments lead the way.

I’ll help guide you through the whole process too - from timeline planning, to helping you feel comfortable in front of the camera, to making sure your day flows without stress or pressure. Think of me as your photographer + calm chaos organiser + hype girl all in one.

My goal is simple: to create wedding photos that feel like you. The real laughs, the quiet in-between moments, the happy tears, and everything in between.

THE EXPERIENCE

BEFORE YOUR DAY

Your wedding photos start long before I pick up my camera. From the moment you book, I’m right there with you – not just as your photographer, but as your biggest cheerleader, timeline expert, and all-round calming presence.

We’ll kick things off with a chat to get to know each other and talk all things wedding dreams, vibes, and must-capture moments. You’ll also receive my Ultimate Wedding Guide that is packed with tips, inspiration, and advice to help you plan your day with photography in mind, curated from my 10+ years photographing weddings and elopements. From ideal ceremony lighting to how to make the most of golden hour, it’s got you covered.

6 - 8 WEEKS BEFORE

Closer to the big day, I’ll send you a questionnaire to fill out with all of the details i need from contact details, family photo list and all the exciting things you have planned for your special day.

From here I will organise a Zoom call to chat all things wedding, answer any questions you may have and give timeline guidance and support to keep things running smoothly, have you relaxed, and gives plenty of time to soak in all the magic.

Think of it as a virtual planning meeting to get on the same page and go through the finer details of your plans for your wedding day. This way you can leave everything photography related to me and enjoy your day stress free.

ON THE DAY

When it comes to your wedding day, I’m all about capturing the real stuff - the belly laughs, the happy tears, the sneaky glances, and all the unscripted magic in between. No awkward posing, no forced smiles – just you two, having the time of your life with your fave people.

Think of me as a fly on the wall (but, like, a really fun, supportive one). I’ll be there to lend a hand, fix a veil, calm the nerves, and hype you up when you need it. But in the moments that count, I’ll melt into the background and quietly capture the magic as it naturally unfolds. No interruptions, just real, honest moments you’ll relive through photos forever.

While I’m mostly in the background capturing the magic as it naturally unfolds, when it’s time for your portraits, that’s where I will take the lead a little more. I’ll be there to hold your hand, guide you with fun, natural prompts, and hype you up every step of the way. Even if you usually feel a bit awkward or shy in front of the camera, we’ll keep things relaxed, playful, and full of love – so you feel confident, comfortable, and completely you. It’ll be so much fun, I promise.

Here for it all. Let’s make it epic, effortlessly.

AFTER THE WEDDING DAY

Once the confetti has settled and your feet have recovered from all the dancing, the magic isn’t over, it’s just beginning!

After your wedding day, I’ll head into full editing mode, carefully curating every moment, detail, and emotion into a beautiful story that’s so uniquely you. Each image is hand-edited with love, care, and a sprinkle of my signature aesthetic.

You’ll receive your full gallery in a gorgeous online space where you can view, download, and share all your high-res images with friends and fam straight from your phone or computer. Your gallery also includes access to a professional online print store, making it super easy and stress-free to turn your memories into beautiful, high-quality prints.

And don’t worry! I’ll send through some sneak peeks shortly after your day, so you get a little taste of the magic while you wait for the full story to unfold!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Choosing your wedding photographer is a big deal, and you probably have a few questions. From wedding photography packages and timelines to travel, photo delivery, and what happens if it rains, here are the questions I’m most commonly asked by couples planning their wedding or elopement in Hamilton, the Waikato, and across New Zealand.

  • Absolutely! I’m always happy to jump on a video call before booking so we can get to know each other and make sure we’re the right fit. Choosing your wedding photographer is a big deal. You want someone you feel comfortable around, not just someone who takes pretty photos. Think of it as a little vibe check.

  • My advice? Book as soon as you can to have the best chance of securing your date. Most couples book their wedding photographer 9–12 months in advance, but for popular summer weekends and peak wedding season, many are booking 12–18 months out. Once you’ve locked in your venue and date, reach out!

  • Wedding photography in New Zealand typically ranges anywhere from $2,500 to $7,000+, depending on experience, coverage hours, and what’s included. Smaller elopements usually cost less, while full-day wedding coverage with an experienced photographer is a larger investment. My packages are designed to suit a range of celebrations, from intimate elopements to full wedding days. You can find my pricing info here

  • Once you’re ready to make things official, I’ll send through your contract and invoice for the booking fee. Once both are completed, your date is locked in and you’re officially in my calendar, yay! Then we start planning all the fun details together.

  • To secure your wedding date, I require a 30% booking fee/deposit. The remaining balance is due one month before your wedding day. This ensures everything is sorted well before the big day so you can focus on celebrating.

  • I sure do! My goal is to make beautiful wedding photography accessible to as many couples as possible. After the 30% booking fee, the remaining balance can be paid off in instalments that work for you. The full amount just needs to be paid one month before your wedding.

  • For elopements, my 2-hour package is the most popular. It’s perfect if it’s just the two of you (plus maybe your bestie) keeping things intimate and simple.

For weddings, 7–8 hours is my sweet spot and most booked package. It usually allows enough time to capture both of you getting ready right through to reception formalities, especially if everything is happening at one venue or nearby.

  • This depends on what parts of your day you’d like captured and what kind of wedding photography coverage you want.

2 hours — Perfect for elopements or intimate ceremonies with portraits.
4 hours— Great for micro weddings with ceremony, portraits, and family photos.
6 hours— Ideal for smaller weddings with prep, ceremony, portraits, and some reception coverage.
8 hours— My most popular option, covering prep through to first dance and golden hour.

Not sure what you need? Flick me a message and tell me about your day and I’ll help.

  • Of course! This is one of the biggest ways I help my couples. With years of wedding experience, I can help create a timeline that allows your day to flow smoothly while making sure we have enough time for all the important photos. We usually go through this together 1–2 months before the wedding via Zoom or during a venue visit. Here’s a blog post with an example.

  • Totally up to you but I do highly recommend them. Getting-ready photos add so much to the story of your day. They capture all the nerves, excitement, happy tears, and anticipation before you see each other. They also help tell the full story when you look back on your gallery years later.

  • I usually recommend around 30 minutes for couple portraits. This gives us enough time to create beautiful images without taking you away from your guests for too long. If you’re keen on sunset or golden hour photos as well, I’d suggest allowing another quick 10–15 minutes later in the evening.

  • This really comes down to personal preference, both options are beautiful.

If you’d prefer that first moment together to feel private and intimate, a first look is amazing and can help calm nerves before the ceremony.

If you’ve always dreamed of seeing each other for the first time at opposite ends of the aisle with all your favourite people watching, save that moment for the ceremony.

  • Honestly, most couples tell me this and that’s completely okay. You do not need to know how to pose or “be good” in front of a camera. I’m basically your built-in hype girl. I’ll guide you with fun prompts, natural movement, and gentle direction so things feel relaxed and easy. My goal is for your photos to feel like you, not stiff or overly posed.

  • Short answer: no. RAW files are unfinished images straight from the camera and don’t reflect the final quality or style of my work. Think of it like asking a baker for raw cake batter instead of the finished cake. The ingredients are all there, but the magic happens in the baking and decorating. A huge part of my work happens after your wedding through carefully selecting and professionally editing your images into the final gallery you fell in love with.

  • A great wedding photographer is so much more than someone with a nice camera. You want someone experienced, organised, calm under pressure, and confident in guiding both couples and large groups. They should help your day run smoothly, make you feel comfortable, and know how to capture both the big moments and the tiny in-between ones.

  • Hell yes. I’m always up for an adventure.

I regularly photograph weddings throughout the Waikato region, including Hamilton, Raglan, Rotorua, Taupō, Coromandel and the Bay of Plenty but as a New Zealand wedding photographer, I’m also available across Aotearoa, Australia, and beyond. If you’re planning a destination wedding or elopement, my bags are basically packed already.

Travel within one hour round trip from Hamilton is included in my packages.

  • Travel within one hour of Hamilton is included. For locations further away, additional travel costs may apply depending on distance, accommodation, or flights. I always aim to keep travel affordable and transparent.

  • If I haven’t photographed there before and it’s local, absolutely. If our schedules line up, we can meet at the venue 1–2 months before your wedding to walk through the timeline and photo locations together. If not, I’ll happily scout it myself before the day.

  • A little rain isn’t ruining your wedding, we’ve come too far for that.

During our planning call or venue visit, we’ll go over backup plans for wet weather so you still get incredible photos. And if you’re happy to embrace the weather, clear umbrellas photograph beautifully and keep things timeless, romantic, and practical.

  • All of my standard packages include just me as your photographer, and I’m very comfortable capturing a wedding solo. However, if your wedding would benefit from a second shooter, I can organise one for an additional fee depending on availability.

  • There’s no strict limit on how many edited images you’ll receive, I deliver all the gallery-worthy moments from your day. As a rough guide, most couples receive around 60 edited images per hour of coverage, though larger weddings often receive more.

Final galleries are typically delivered within 4–6 weeks of your wedding.

  • Your final images will be delivered through a beautiful online gallery that’s easy to access, download, share, and enjoy with family and friends. Your gallery is available on desktop and mobile, making it super easy to relive the magic anytime.

  • Absolutely and I love when couples print their photos.

There’s something special about seeing your memories on your walls or sitting in a beautiful album on your coffee table. I offer professionally printed keepsake albums designed by me, plus high-quality prints available directly through your online gallery. Even better? Everything is printed by a local New Zealand company, so you’re supporting another small business too.

HERE’S WHAT MY COUPLE HAD TO SAY

“We were beyond happy with Ainslee as our wedding photographer. The photos were perfect. We hit the jackpot with her. In particular, we appreciated her kindness, professionalism, sense of humour, ability to change plans and capture small things we hadn't even spoken about while also fitting in seamlessly with everyone. She was keen on adventures - with a complete a change in venue (5.5 hour drive), gravel roads, hiking and bus rides involved. We are so happy to have met Ainslee and keep chatting about how awesome it was to have her there handling everything. We wish her all the best. We will be singing her praises for many years.”
