THINGS TO DO IN QUEENSTOWN, NEW ZEALAND

Queenstown, New Zealand, is one of the most magical places on earth. This place is quite literally the ultimate playground for me as a New Zealand Wedding & Portrait Photographer.

From the time you fly in over the snowcapped alps to the many wondrous landscapes surrounding you, this place is something else!
I wanted to share with you the epic activities we had the opportunity to do on our trips over the years to Queenstown. This way if your planning a trip, your elopement or honeymoon you have an idea of the awesome things that are around, that you can do.

HELICOPTER FLIGHT

There are many ways to see the many Epic Mountains and glaciers in Queenstown are neighbouring towns but there is nothing quite like seeing it from above. On our latest trip, we took a scenic Helicopter Flight and landed on Cecil’s Peak. Being the Middle of Winter the Mountain was covered in fluffy snow. I know, so awesome, and I right?! We were able to take in the views and even have a snowball fight! Being a New Zealand Wedding Photographer, ofcourse I was scouting for all of the breathtaking photo spots for future Elopements. I’ll let you know that, it did not disappoint. If you’re going to check out the skylines of Queenstown be sure to check out The Helicopter Line. Our Pilot Danny was so knowledgeable and Friendly making our first time in a Helicopter so much fun! Definitely can’t wait to check out the Glaciers next!

ONSEN HOT POOLS

After a long day of travelling and Photographing an Adventurous Elopement in Glenorchy, I ofcourse wanted a whole day to just unwind and relax. What better way to do that then hitting up The Onsen Hot Pools in Arthurs Point, Queenstown. This luxurious secluded paradise was the perfect treat on a cold Winters Day. We had private use of an outdoor spa that overlooked the serene Shotover River. It came with everything we needed for a relaxing and romantic date; Drinks, Ice Cream and Chocolate. This is a must do when visiting, any time of year! Be sure to book in advance as they get booked out quite quickly!

NADI WELLNESS CENTRE

Heading straight from The Onsen Hot Pools we drove back in to town where we had booked in a 90 minute massage at the tranquil Nadi Wellness Centre. The Centre had two Massage therapist there which allowed for a couples massage. It was the most peaceful and relaxing 90 minutes ever! It went so quick. The use Doterra Essential Oils too so that was a win in my book!

SHOTOVER CANYON SWING

On our first ever trip to Queenstown we wanted to be adventurous and a bit ballsy so we signed up to do the Shotover Canyon Swing. For someone (me) who is afraid of heights, I knew I was going to be super nervous. I knew I could do it though as I had already Skydived the year before. One of the awesome perks of this Swing is choosing how you do it. For the scaredy cats like me, having the option to go tandem with your partner was calming. For the more wild out the gate types there are a range of different ways you can swing, hanging upside down, sliding off a slide, backflips, on a trike, hand standing, cutaway off a chair… Options are endless for all you dare devils out there.

SHOTOVER JET BOAT

As a package deal we got to do the Shotover Canyon Jet Boat on the same day. With included shuttle from Town to each activity, it made for a fun and thrill-filled day. I’ve been on many Jet Boats but I must say this was the most fun and exciting! Jetting through the canyon was incredible. The skill of the drivers and the way they were able to perform their tricks skimming the narrow canyon walls was amazing. Keeping us on our toes but not fearing for our lives haha!

MINUS 5 ICEBAR

The first stop on a night out. With complimentary Cocktail on entry this place was worth checking out. With warm winter jackets and gloves to keep comfortable in the ice-filled bar. There was intricately sculptured ice features and the whole inside of the bar is ice, the walls, the floors, the seating, the bar, your drinking glasses…EVERYTHING. It was definitely a cool experience..haha okay that was a total dad joke. But seriously, it’s a cheap and unique experience that you need to do at least once!
